Wills & probate
Around two-thirds of UK adults do not currently have a Will. If you are one of them, or if your Will is not up-to-date, you run the risk of your wishes not being respected when you pass away. You are also potentially leaving your loved ones with a complicated and stressful probate process to go through to sort out your estate when you are gone.
Our expert Wills & probate solicitors in Shirehampton can help you create a legally sound Will to make sure your estate is divided according to your intentions. We can also help with all aspects of estate planning, such as creating trusts and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
If a loved one has recently passed away, we can support you during the probate process, making things as simple and stress-free as possible for you, so you can focus on grieving for your loved one.
Pre-nuptial agreements & cohabitation agreements
An increasing number of couples are creating pre-nuptial agreements before getting married, to ensure their interests are protected both during their marriage and if it comes to an end.
A pre-nuptial agreement can set out how your finances will be arranged during your marriage and how your assets will be divided if you do ultimately get divorced. Although pre-nuptial agreements are not currently legally binding in the UK, if they are created in the correct way, judges will usually take them into consideration if required to decide a financial settlement for you.
We can also help you with a cohabitation agreement, which serves much the same purpose for couples who are cohabiting without getting married or entering a civil partnership.
For same sex couples who do not wish to get married, civil partnerships offer many of the same benefits. We can talk you through the legal implications of entering a civil partnership, help you create a pre-civil partnership agreement (equivalent to a pre-nuptial agreement) and guide you through the process of civil partnership dissolution if your relationship has come to and end.
We can also guide you through converting your civil partnership into a marriage, which is something many same sex couples are now choosing to do.
